Language Arts
At Sikhi Maarag School, we prioritize the development of your child’s oral, reading, and writing skills in our language arts classes. GURMAT STUDIES

Gurmukhi
Students engage in various activities designed to teach them how to read and write Gurmukhi. Using engaging resources, we guide them through learning Gurmukhi alphabets, muharni, shabad jorh, sentences, and stories, tailoring the progression based on each child’s level.
Santhya (Reading of Gurbani)
ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥– Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, Ang 1219
In the Santhya class, students are taught the correct pronunciation and pauses while reading Gurbani. All the children happily learn to recite Gurbani with each other’s encouragement and competition. Through daily group readings of Gurbani, students develop effective reading skills while fostering a deeper connection to Guru Sahib.
Gurbani Arth, Vocabulary, and Memorization

We introduce Gurbani vocabulary in every grade so that students can slowly build their ability to understand Gurbani over time. We aim to empower our students to interpret Gurbani meanings independently, fostering a deep understanding and personal connection with the sacred teachings of Sikhi. Furthermore, students participate in memorization sessions of Gurbani.
Keertan (Singing of Gurbani)
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ॥– Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, Ang 1075
Weekly Keertan classes are provided to students, aligning with the significance of Keertan in Sikhi. Through Keertan, students not only learn to appreciate the musical aspect of Gurbani but also develop a deeper spiritual connection.
Sikh Philosophy/Gurmat Class

This class includes teachings of core Sikh values, history, virtues, and principles to empower students with a comprehensive understanding of Sikh philosophy.
